Well, that's a surprise.

Early this morning, New Japan Pro Wrestling held their New Beginnings event which saw a huge change in their championship landscape as ‘Switchblade’ Jay White dethroned The Ace of New Japan Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the 68th IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Tanahashi had only held the belt for a short 38 days after beating Kenny Omega for the title at Wrestle Kingdom 13, so to see him drop the belt so soon to the former IWPG United States champion comes as a major shock.

To end the match, Tanahashi went for his High Fly Flow finishing maneuver which White expertely countered into his finisher Blade Runner for the win. After thi,s White took a microphone and stated that “It doesn’t matter, because I am the real IWGP Heavyweight Champion. I do not do this for any of you, I do this for me, I do this for Gedo, I do this for the Cutthroat Era Bullet Club.” White also stated that he would metaphorically spit on the fan’s faces and would do so by being the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. The leader of the “Cutthroat Era Bullet Club” then went on to say “It is a new dawn, a new age, a new beginning”

The reign of The Switchblade has just begun and the list of challengers will be never ending, so the question now is: who will be his first challenger?
