Hunter x Hunter Filler Episodes You Can Skip

Hunter X Hunter
Hunter X Hunter

The 2011 remake of Hunter x Hunter reignited the flames inside the huge fanbase that spawned from the 1999 animation. Seeing Gon, Killua, and the rest of the cast in a more colorful and beautifully animated show will definitely do the trick. But for people who want to save as much of their time as possible, even the most beloved plots can use a little sliming. One way to accomplish it is by skipping filler episodes.

The 1999 Hunter x Hunter had a surprisingly low number of filler episodes. When you look at its competitors like One Piece or Naruto, Hunter x Hunter filler episodes hardly felt intrusive.

Did the 2011 Hunter x Hunter do just as well, or did it do better? After all, the new show is lengthier. Here are all the Hunter x Hunter filler episodes that you can skip.

Hunter x Hunter Filler List

To answer the question, yes, the 2011 Hunter x Hunter had even less filler than the 1999 run.

The 1999 release of Hunter x Hunter had five fillers out of a total of 92 episodes. Topping it up to 5% of the entire show being filler. Incredibly low, but you haven’t seen anything yet.

The 2011 release of Hunter x Hunter only has two fillers out of a total of 148 episodes. This means that only 1% of the show is skippable filler. Not only did the number of total episodes increase, the number of filler episodes went down as well. Bleach, another show from around this era has 45% of the entire show as filler.

  • Letter × From × Gon (Episode 13)
  • Then × And × After (Episode 26)

These are the two purely filler episodes of the 2011 Hunter x Hunter. The reason why the number is so small is probably because it’s a remake of an old series. The manga already has more than enough material for the anime, so there was no reason to add any more detours to the plot.

Episode 12, titled Last × Test Of × Resolve! is another special one. It’s what’s called a “mixed” episode that contains both canon and non-canon scenes. However, you should still watch it if you don’t want to miss anything non-canon. Episode 12 includes scenes from Chapters 21 and 22 of the manga.

While the 2011 version only has two filler episodes, the original Hunter x Hunter has slightly more, with five filler episodes throughout its 92-episode run. Here are those filler episodes if you decide to gander at the Hunter x Hunter 1999 version.

  • Encounter x Hesitation x Departure (Episode 2)
  • Trauma x Limit x Sweet Trap (Episode 7)
  • Treasure x Memory x Cramped Hotel Room (Episode 18)
  • Stranded x Log Book x Soaked (Episode 19)
  • Big Waves x Big Cannon x Huge Rush (Episode 20)

Thankfully, Hunter x Hunter isn’t plagued with several filler episodes. However, some episodes mix filler content in the middle of canon episodes, making it hard to specify which parts you should skip. Still, those episodes are mostly manga canon, so you should watch them either way. Meanwhile, the ones listed above are purely filler and are safe to skip.

Why Should You Skip These Hunter x Hunter Filler Episodes?

As with every other anime with filler, the biggest reason to skip these is to save time. And with an anime like Hunter x Hunter that’s very reliant on how the plot flows, people might also want to cut out the unnecessary bits to avoid losing momentum. It can be annoying when you’re all hyped up for the next fight or arc, but then a filler episode gets in your way.

Again, it’s not that big of a deal with Hunter x Hunter filler episodes, but you take what you can get. It’ll only shave about 50 minutes off the total watch time, but hey, some people could use that 50 minutes.

Alternatively, when you realize how little of them there are, you might change your mind and just watch them. What’re two episodes between you and your favorite show right? It’s all up to you.
