The past weekend saw Team Fortress 2 streaming group hugs.tf raise over £15,000 for Special Effect, a UK charity which helps people with disabilities to enjoy video games.

In total, the TF2 charity stream ran for over 26 solid hours over the 6th and 7th, with viewers’ donations all going towards the impressive total–the entirety of which will be donated to Special Effect.

The stream featured a variety of events, including “Joy of Painting” where the stream dream team made a bunch of home-made goodies, and a special late-night spooky “Scream Fortress” segment. Agro from popular TF2 podcast Kritzkast also joined in the fun, livestreaming episode 420 of the show during the stream.

Special Effect describes itself as “bringing families and friends together and having a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.” They are a no-cost charity–the sole purpose of which is to help people with a range of disabilities to play and enjoy their favourite video games:

From modified gaming controllers to eye-control systems, every system we recommend or loan is personalised. Sometimes that might mean adding voice control or a chin joystick. Or we might get the drill and the soldering iron to adapt the button positions on a controller. There are hundreds of solutions in countless combinations, and it’s our job to find the right one.

Whilst the stream is now over, Special Effect is always looking for donations to help finance their work, and you can donate online by visiting their website here. It only takes a few seconds, and you could change someone’s life for the better.
