Backed by rave critical reviews, strong marketing campaigns, and positive word of mouth, Horizon Zero Dawn has been a huge success for Sony and Guerrilla.

Already one of the best PS4 exclusives, it was today announced that Horizon had sold 2.6 million copies, setting sales records for new IPs on the console and making it Guerrilla’s best-selling game in the process. Not bad at all considering it only came out two weeks ago on February 28th.

Speaking about the game’s success, Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios, had this to say:

“We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying. Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans – from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing – shows just how impactful it has been.”

Guerrilla’s Managing Director, Hermen Hulst, was understandably just as positive about the game’s accomplishments:

“We’re thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike. Developing the game was a labor of love, so it’s extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development.”

Hulst also hinted at DLC to somehow add even more hours to the massive journey many gamers are still going through:

“This is only the beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story.”

We gave Horizon Zero Dawn a well-deserved 9/10, with reviewer Nick Monahan saying:

“Horizon is a breath of fresh air, a proud notch in Sony’s exclusive belt and, most importantly to me, a reminder about why I play video games and what they are capable of.”

Horizon Zero Dawn is available now exclusively on PS4.
