HOOK Wins First AEW Championship At Fight For The Fallen

A shocking title change took place on this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, a special episode dubbed ‘Fight for the Fallen’. Ricky Starks successfully defended his FTW Championship against Danhausen only to then open the floor to a second challenger who revealed themselves to be the ever-popular HOOK.

HOOK stormed the ring and gave Starks the best challenge he could, leading him to locking in the Redrum finisher and tapping out ‘Absolute’ Ricky in the middle of the ring. With that, HOOK will carry on the legacy of the FTW Championship, a title which his father, Tazz, made popular back in the 90s/early 00s.

Although what was truly shocking about this was that after the match had concluded, Starks and HOOK seemed to share a moment of respect in the ring, effectively turning Starks babyface in the process. ‘Absolute’ Ricky then got on the mic to put over his reign with the FTW title, giving it the modicum of prestige necessary to make it seem like a big deal, and was then betrayed by his partner, Powerhouse Hobbs.

It was a strange series of events, but quite possibly the inevitable steps taken to make Ricky Starks one of the top guys on the roster. We’ll see where this leads in coming weeks.

In the meantime, congratulations to HOOK, capturing his first AEW Championship.
