From 0% to 1%, mind you.

Veteran dev formerly associated with Radical Entertainment and Hothead Games have established a new studio, New Radical Games. The company appears to be led by Ian Wilkinson as CEO and Tim Bennison as COO, according to their website.

Wilkinson originally co-founded Radical Entertainment in 1991. The studio was sold to Vivendi Games in 2006, after which Wilkinson retired as CEO and president in 2008. He later joined Hothead Games in 2009. Bennison previously worked alongside Wilkinson at Radical Entertainment as executive producer and vice president of technology. He joined Hothead as COO in 2020 and most recently served as COO at Capcom Game Studio Vancouver.

Radical Entertainment developed some absolute “streets won’t forget” games in their day, including The Simpsons: Hit & Run, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and the Prototype series. Following its acquisition by Vivendi, and later integration under Activision, the studio contributed to projects such as Prototype 2 ports and provided support for Bungie on Destiny.

Hothead Games, meanwhile, operated for 18 years before filing for bankruptcy in December 2024. Its portfolio included the DeathSpank and Penny Arcade Adventures series. In a farewell LinkedIn post, Wilkinson stated that Hothead had been developing a playable prototype for a AAA project but was unable to secure publishing contracts for mobile and console versions after potential partners withdrew.

New Radical Games’ website indicates a focus on remastering classic titles, which does give a bit of extra potential to that Hit and Run remaster. But with the whole Apu thing (a major playable character in the game) and the messy web of rights issues, I still wouldn’t hold out too much hope.
