Henry Cavill Reportedly Out Of Superman Role

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavill will no longer be portraying Superman as part of the DCEU.

The fallout allegedly comes from Cavill and Warner Bros. being unable to reach terms on the former making a cameo in Shazam! because of his schedule and WB having nothing else on their upcoming slate for the actor. A follow-up to Man of Steel is not currently in their plans.

Cavill is ready to walk away from the role because of this, as well as WB reportedly planning on starting somewhat afresh with their movie universe. Judging by what he has coming up and how poorly Superman has been handled as a character since the DCEU kicked off, you can’t blame him.

Reports have also lately been circulating that Ben Affleck is out as Batman, meaning that the two cornerstones of the cinematic universe could potentially both need replacing. Considering how indifferent many are to the series after Justice League, this could be a make or break moment for WB.

Cavill could do a lot better, as his turn in Mission: Impossible – Fallout proved. He doesn’t need to be tied down to just one role or become typecast. However, considering how he grew into the role despite the terrible material given to him, it’s a shame that he never really had a chance to show what he can do with the right script and director.

No parties involved are yet to make an official statement on the THR report, so watch this space.
