Halo Coming To The Nintendo Switch Version Of Minecraft

I never thought I’d see the day, but Halo has finally made its way to a Nintendo console. To clarify, I’m talking about Minecraft’s Halo Mashup DLC pack, which will be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. Sure, it’s not one of the main entries in the series, but this marks the first time Microsoft’s signature franchise has appeared on a system other than an Xbox console or PC.

The Halo Mash-up was previously released on the Xbox One, and it will arrive on the Switch as part of the upcoming cross-platform Better Together Update. It features over forty Halo-themed character skins, in addition to six new maps. Have a look at the Xbox One version in action below.

In addition to the Switch, Microsoft employee Aubrey Norris confirmed on Twitter that the Halo mash-up will be available in all versions of Minecraft which utilise the Bedrock Engine, which Shacknews points out includes the Android, iOS, Windows 10, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Gear VR, and the Oculus Rift. So this is bound to be a huge earner for Microsoft.

Since the release of Halo: Combat Evolved back in 2001, the sci-fi FPS franchise has gone on to sell over 65 million copies worldwide, while Minecraft originally hit stores in 2011 and has sold over 121 million units across all platforms. This makes them two of the most successful video game franchises of all-time, something that’s probably not going to change anytime soon.
