H1Z1 Battle Royale Coming To PS4, Open Beta Next Month

H1Z1

Daybreak Games have announced that their popular free to play battle royale game H1Z1 is coming to the PS4, and that the game will enter open beta on May 22nd. Look out Fortnite, because H1Z1 is coming for you.

In order to work on the PS4, H1Z1 has been rebuilt from the ground up to include a new control scheme, an overhauled UI and a simplified inventory management system. The team are also reworking the way the encroaching gas and airdrops work, in an attempt to create faster paced gameplay, whilst keeping you invested in fighting. Basically, they’re keeping things simple and quick, which should make things perfect for a console release.

Talking about the announcement, H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee said that: “H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem. We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play. We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun — an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”

As for the technical aspect, Daybreak are promising that the game is fully optimised for PS4, and that the game will run at 60 fps on PS4 Pro. Whether it’ll achieve that is another story, but you’ll be able to find out for yourself during a closed beta weekend that’s due to happen “this month”. Sign ups are supposed to be live now, but the link in the press release we received doesn’t work. Might be worth keeping an eye on it for the next few hours.

Finally, starting from today, you can pre-order a special H1Z1 pre-order bundle that’ll include new cosmetic items that’ll be available when the game reaches open beta, along with a dynamic PS4 theme. The bundle will be available until May 22nd, and costs $29.99 / €23.33 / £19.24.
