With the huge reveal of GTA V coming to the Epic Games Store, it also looks like the huge amount of people trying to get the game for free have also broken the store itself.
If you try to launch the Epic Games Launcher right now, you will likely get a 500 error message with “an unexpected error has occurred”.
If you select “back to home”, the 500 message will persist, but weirdly enough, it changed into the Turkish language for us.
We were eventually able to get back into the store, but now everything is in Spanish.
This means that not only can people not access their free game, they can’t browse the store’s new sale, and, perhaps most importantly of all, launch Fortnite.
Even if you can access the store, there’s a high chance that it will load slowly or crash. We closed the app and then opened it and received the 500 message again.
Epic are aware of the issue, telling players that “We appreciate your patience as we continue to work towards a resolution to mitigate traffic.”
We understand that many users are unable to access the Epic Games Store at this time. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work towards a resolution to mitigate traffic.

This is the first major outage for the Epic Games platform since the launch of Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 1, which saw a huge amount of players trying to log back in at the conclusion of the Black Hole event.
You’d think that after seven years and endless appearances in the top sales charts that people would not really need a copy of Grand Theft Auto V at this point, but apparently not.
GTA V is the latest in a long line of free games Epic have been giving out over the past year. There’s another huge mystery game coming up, so watch this space.
In other Epic news, they recently announced Unreal Engine 5 due for release sometime in 2021.
