Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be just about the biggest entertainment launch of all time when it launches for PlayStation and Xbox Series in 2025. Rockstar’s newest game has been hotly anticipated for the better part of a decade, and its trailer has been watched in record numbers, becoming the fastest video to reach 100 million views that isn’t a music video. But will you also be able to play it on your PlayStation 4?

The answer is about as categorical a no as any written article can give you without confirmation from the developers themselves. An older gen version of Grand Theft Auto 6 probably isn’t completely impossible, but with less and less games being made for PS4, you can only imagine that there won’t be many people on PS4 come 2025, meaning that Rockstar almost definitely won’t even try to make it happen.

Plus, the PS4 struggled with Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. You can only imagine how far the technology for developing games will have improved come 2025, when the PlayStation 4 will be a staggering 12 years old. If you’re holding out hope for a PS4 version of GTA 6, we’d say stop hoping and start saving up for a PS5 — and even the inevitable PS5 Pro would likely be the way to go for a game that’s promising to be groundbreaking.

About Grand Theft Auto 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 follows Lucia and Jason, a couple in love with each other and crime, a pretty potent combination. Not much else is know about them beyond that, but GTA 6 will see players returning to Vice City in one of the most anticipated games of all time.

You can expect that GTA 6 will have a Bonnie and Clyde-esque story mode along with a whole new GTA Online for players to dump their Shark Cards into. GTA 6 is due to release in 2025, but there’s no specific date just yet, and bear in mind that it’s not uncommon for Rockstar releases to get delayed.
