Greedfall Developers Spiders Announce Action-RPG Steelrising

Let them eat automatons.

Spiders, the developers of last year’s Greedfall, announced their latest project during last night’s Nacon Connect presentation. It’s called Steelrising, and it takes place in an alternate version of the French Revolution where King Louis XVI is a tyrant with a robot army. Just go with it and watch the trailer below.

You’ll control the main character, Aegis, a female formed robot who also serves as the loyal bodyguard to Queen Marie-Antoinette. During the game, you’ll have to find your creator, attempt to stop King Louis’ robot rampage and fight to “change the course of history”. I assume changing the course of history means changing it back to where 18th Century France doesn’t have automatons, but I digress.

Combat sounds like much more of a focus in Steelrising than Greedfall, with Aegis able to utilise seven different weapon classes and a host of items that’ll make her deal more damage, more mobile in combat or just be able to take more hits. You’ll also be able to explore this alternate version of Paris, complete with recreations of landmarks that no longer exist, including the Grand Chatelet and the Tour du Temple.

Steelrising is in development now for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X, with no set release date as of yet. Are you excited for Spiders’ next game? Sound off in the comments.
