Good Girls is a popular crime drama on NBC featuring three mothers down to their last penny. Do they pick the route of the similarly titled 2 Broke Girls and work their problems away? Not exactly; they instead go for robbery, counterfeiting, and money laundering.

The three girls in question are Beth, Annie, and Ruby. By the end of Season 4, they are deep in the world of crime. Annie was arrested. Ruby was left with the decision to stay with Beth or escape with Stan. And Beth, well, she’s too far gone and refuses to give up her life of crime. It seems like their stories are still far from over, but are they? Here’s what you should know about Good Girls: Season 5.

When Is Good Girls: Season 5 Being Released?

Good Girls: Season 5 was declared canceled by NBC even before Season 4 ended. Season 5 was supposed to be the final season. It’s why the ending of Season 4 didn’t feel like it was the final goodbye, like there was supposed to be something more.

So, what happened? The official reason NBC gave for the cancellation was financial troubles.

The show was actually getting positive ratings, so the sudden cancellation was a shock to many. This led to the creation of multiple theories as to why Good Girls: Season 5 was canceled apart from NBC’s explanation. The leading theory is that one of the cast members refused to return. Retta, the actress who plays Ruby, confirms this in an interview but does not specify the cast member.

Will The Cast Return For Good Girls: Season 5?

The cancellation makes this a definite no. Now that Good Girls: Season 5 is scrapped, you’re better off looking for your favorite cast members’ next projects. All three of Good Girls’ main protagonists already have roles lined up. Check them out.

Christina Hendricks (Beth Boland) will be in a TV series coming out in 2024 called The Buccaneers.

Retta (Ruby Hill) is in the upcoming film Hit Man, scheduled to release in September 2023, and a detective drama series called Murder By The Book.

Mae Whitman (Annie Marks) will be voicing Roxie in a new untitled Scott Pilgrim anime series.

What Could Good Girls: Season 5 Be About?

It’s unfortunate that Good Girls: Season 5 never came to be. You just can’t help but wonder what the script would’ve been like. No one truly knows, but it’s fun to guess.

Good Girls: Season 5 would probably revolve around three separate stories since the girls potentially split up at the end.

The main story would be about Beth and Rio continuing their crime operations. This time though, it would be Beth in charge of Rio. Now that she’s the councilwoman, Beth has more power than ever. However, she now has more eyes trained on her than ever too.

The series could also show how Annie would cope in prison. If Ruby decided to stay with Beth, the two of them might even attempt to break Annie out.

However, if Ruby did decide to stay, then that could permanently ruin her relationship with Stan. Sadly, no one will probably know who she chose in the end.
