God of War Ragnarok: How To Defeat Fiske

God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok features a plethora of boss fights, some are optional but others, like Fiske, are not. Fiske is a boss players will encounter during the sixth quest The Reckoning. One of Odin’s captains, he is a large armoured warrior opponent with a deadly scythe but, despite his intimidating appearance, his attacks are slow and he’s reasonably straightforward to defeat. Here’s how to defeat Fiske in Ragnarok.

Starting the Fiske fight can be done by dealing ranged damage. Due to his slow speed, Fiske will take time to get up and approach Kratos which gives ample opportunity to throw as many ranged attacks towards him as possible in this window. After this, the battle arena is quite small and melee attacks become the most effective.

The most important thing to master during the Fiske fight is learning his movement and timing of his attacks. His strikes can be so slow that you could be tempted to parry too early, missing your window and ultimately taking damage. Be patient, especially when the scythe begins swinging from side to side – this is his basic combo attack. Some of these swings can be blocked – those with a yellow ring – but the most reliable way of avoiding them is to parry. You can only dodge the red-ringed attacks. Fiske will only be vulnerable to taking damage at the end of these swinging combos, so a series of parries is necessary in order to open him up to deal damage.

Fiske will also swing the scythe as a single, red-ringed attack which must be dodged at the optimal moment in order to avoid this attack. If the timing of your dodge is wrong, you will get hit. It will hurt.

Fiske’s other attack method is a blast of magic which can be interrupted with a shield smash. Keep an eye out for the blue ring indicators, and try to stay at close range even if the large scope of the scythe makes it tempting to retreat. Retreating can be safer, but it can also mean the window for blocking Fiske’s magic attack is missed. Fiske can inflict Bifrost, so try to avoid taking any further damage if this happens to avoid explosions.

At the very end of the fight, a prompt will appear on screen and Kratos can perform an execution to take down Fiske.
