Geoff Keighley Announces Digital Summer Games Fest Event

Wonder if it'll be sponsored by Monster Energy?

Summer Game Fest

Industry veteran Geoff Keighley, not content with hosting the massive winter event The Game Awards, has now set his sights on the summer, as he’s announced the Summer Games Fest. This four month long digital celebration will feature events and shows from a variety of gaming developers.

Announced via The Washington Post, Summer Games Fest has already confirmed a host of publishing partners. Those listed include 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard Entertainment, Bungie, CD Projekt Red, Digital Extremes, Electronic Arts, Microsoft (including Xbox), Private Division, Riot Games, Sony, Square Enix and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The event has been in the works for sometime, but with the ongoing “situation” leading to E3’s cancellation, Keighley accelerated plans for the Summer Game Fest. Similar to the 2 day Steam event prior to The Game Awards, Keighley promises that the Summer Game Fest will provide hands-on trials and demos for various games, with both Steam and Xbox confirmed for this service.

Interestingly, the 4 month scheduled appears to be in flux, as Geoff is hoping that various publishers will use the event to promote their already planned events, with Summer Game Fest becoming an “umbrella brand” to house announcements from various sectors of the gaming industry. This could also include “content creators and others who have ideas”, according to Keighley himself: “We’re all ears!”

The website for Summer Game Fest is live now, though currently you can only enter your email address to be notified of the upcoming schedule and other plans. It sounds like an interesting events, and the promise of hands-on content from the comfort of our own home is fantastic. Are you excited? Sound off in the comments.
