Full Length Trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is Stunning

Callum Davies looks forward to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Depending on who you talk to, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was either a masterful revival of a classic sci-fi series or a damp squib. I place myself in the former camp, I found it to be a brilliantly imaginative, powerful piece of cinema with some of the best CGI ever put to screen. The sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, has been on the radar for quite some time and now a full length trailer is out. It looks incredible.

Carrying on some years after the first film, we find the apes gradually constructing a functional society whilst humanity tries to rebuild in the wake of a catastrophic viral outbreak (brought on by the very chemical compound that granted the apes heightened intelligence). It’s a hell of a thing when even the trailer for a film has you questioning the morals and motivations of characters, characters whose names you don’t even know. It would have been so easy to merely attempt to recapture the magic of the 1968 original like Tim Burton tried and utterly failed to but this film is coming at it from a completely different angle and I applaud it for that.

Rather than being another edition to the blockbuster roster with the USP of seeing Gary Oldman get bludgeoned to death by a large gibbon, this looks to have all the hallmarks of a potent, intelligent film and I cannot wait to see it.
