Fortnite: When Does Building Come Back?

Epic did what we never thought they would at the start of Fortnite: Chapter 3 – Season 2 when they removed building from the game. The very thing that made Fortnite stand apart from PUBG at the start of the BR “war” is no more, at least for a little while. Luckily, building won’t be gone for too long.

Building is currently scheduled to return to Fortnite on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022, almost certainly as part of the v20.10 update which will act as the first major update for the game in Season 2. Players can still use building in Arena and Creative.

If you’re wondering why there’s no building in Fortnite’s main mode, it’s explained in the story as Slone, the leader of IO, finally arriving on the flip side of the island and using some kind of device to remove all builds.

However, the lack of building in Fortnite currently seems to be splitting the fanbase right down the middle.

A lot of dedicated Fortnite fans believe that taking building out of the game also takes out a lot of what made it so special, with it now being just like every other BR game. However, lapsed and more casual Fortnite players appreciate the lack of building as now they don’t have to learn quite as many mechanics or practice so much, with Fortnite just generally being much more accessible.

However, it does also seem like no building will remain as a mode of some kind after building returns, with it maybe being an LTM (limited-time mode), just based on how much conversation it’s created. Players will presumably be able to choose either building or no building in Battle Royale.

Epic will probably be wary of keeping a no building mode in permanently though, as it could end up completely splitting the fanbase with one of the modes being less popular than the other, meaning that there will be longer queue times for certain modes.

That said, Fortnite is already split far beyond Battle Royale, so what’s another way of playing BR on top of Save the World, Creative, and Impostors?

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
