7 Fortnite Getaway LTM Tips To Help You With A Payday

Fortnite High Stakes

Fortnite has a new mode, and one unlike anything we’ve seen from the game before. With the introduction of the Getaway LTM, players now have to collect jewels from within safes (or off the bodies of those holding it) and make an apt getaway to the nearest van.

It’s a lot of fun with plenty of ways to complete your goals, though there is some joy to be had from intentionally shooting out your teammate’s ramps when they’re just about to deliver the jewel. With the storm circle already in place by the time you jump out of the Battle Bus, it’s also a lot faster-paced than standard games of Fortnite.

With only three jewels and three vans in play (at least, to begin with), it’s a race to see who can make an escape with a llama in tow, though whoever is carrying it is slowed down considerably and is visible in the directional wheel.

If you’re struggling to complete your heist, here’s some quick and easy Getaway LTM tips. A quick tip for free: don’t play with randoms because nobody seems to understand what this mode is all about somehow.

1. Avoid the nearest safe
With everyone itching to jump off the Battle Bus as soon as possible, it usually means that the closest safe is also the biggest battlefield. Luck defines your survival as much as skill when you first land, so limit some of the misfortune by choosing a safe that requires some patience or plenty of flying to get to.

2. Stock up on Impulse/Shockwave Grenades
When you have the llama in tow, you slow down to a snail’s crawl. If you don’t find the grappler, Shockave and Impulse Grenades are your next port of call, especially the Shockwave. If you’re overwhelmed by other players, the Shockwave can give you a get out of free jail card and also allow you to travel huge distances.

3. Camp the van
This one works best if your squad is missing members of if you had a particularly iffy landing. If you know another squad has the jewel, simply hide near the nearest van to them and ambush them when they try to make their escape rather than confronting them head-on. Bonus points if you make some enticing builds just below the van and then lace it with C4.

4. Land in nearby areas
This should be obvious, but according to my random squadmates, it isn’t. Don’t land right on top of the safe or even in the closest place of interest. Instead, find a relatively close POI that you can safely loot up from before making your way towards the safe/jewel location. With any luck, the squad that emerged victorious from the early melee will be weak and ripe for the taking.

5. Open the red drops
The red drops that spawn early on in the match may actually be the best place to land in the Getaway LTM. These drops come packed with guns, shields, and the all-new Grappler item. There’s enough to share between a couple of your teammates and with them dropping within close proximity to each other, it may be worth splitting up the squad and getting a drop each.

6. Get an ATK
What’s a getaway without a getaway vehicle? Live out your Baby Driver fantasies by picking up an ATK. You can either land as a squad at Lazy Links to easily find one or assign a driver to go and pick one up and get you to your objective quicker. With an ATK, you can score yourself a Victory Royale in no time at all.

7. Use bouncepads to reach the van
The getaway vans are a little trick to get to, as well as being a big target on your back as they are so obvious to anyone in the area. To negate some of the risk, place a floor underneath the van and then place a bound pad on said floor. Use the bounce pad to quickly build ascending walls and have yourself a tower in a matter of seconds. It doesn’t matter if it gets shot out as the Bounce Pad at the bottom will save you.

To accompany the new LTM, Epic have also released the new High Stakes challenges, which we have a walkthrough for if you’re interested. Brand new to the game? Our Fortnite beginner’s tips will get you out of that bush and into the action.
