It may have been a bit of a long wait for Season 3 to end, but Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4 is finally here. Well, it will be once the dreaded downtime ends, with the downtime beginning at 8 AM BST / 2 AM CT / 1 AM PT on August 28th, 2023. Itching to get back into the action and find out what Last Resort is all about? Here’s what you need to know.

Downtimes for new seasons usually last around five or so hours, give or take. Sometimes it’s a bit longer than that, as Epic encounters issues when trying to push out the patch or discovers something that doesn’t work as intended, but generally Fortnite downtime lasts for five or so hours from the point that Epic announces it. This means that players can expect Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4’s downtime to last until around 12 PM BST / 7 AM CT / 6 AM PT. Most people in America won’t even notice the wait, but for those in the UK expect Fortnite to be back live around lunchtime.

However, you should also expect to have to download a pretty hefty update for the launch of the new season, which feels like a more horror-themed play on the heist-themed season from way back in Chapter 2. These are almost always the largest updates in Fortnite with them even going into double digits in terms of gigabytes, so make sure you aren’t downloading a million other things before you add Season 4 to your download queue if you want to jump back on the island as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, sometimes that is a little bit out of your own hands. New season launches tend to be the most popular days for Fortnite, which means that servers typically get overwhelmed and players get put in queues before they can actually play. As Fortnite is an entirely online game, this means that you won’t even be able to play Creative until the queue time is over. There’s not really a lot you can do about this expect be patient and wait for the time to tick down — and also pray that that time doesn’t extend for whatever reason.

Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4, also known as Last Resort, is expected to be a pretty big season in Fortnite from a narrative standpoint, as so far very little has happened in terms of story across the whole chapter. With threats looming and narrative beats finally clicking into place with the arrival of The Apparatus, look forward to plenty of huge moments as we gear towards what’s expected to be the Chapter 4 finale.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
