Fortnite 2 Season 1 – Open Water: Hide Inside Hideouts In Different Matches

Hideaway.

Fortnite 2

Chapter 2 of Fortnite Season 1 has arrived and with it brings the most changes Fortnite has ever seen in a single update. Along with the many revamps Chapter 2 brings, including interface changes, weapons changes and a whole new map) the most notable addition is a brand new mechanic called ‘hideouts’.

Hideouts are, in layman’s terms, ‘effective bushes’. Older players may remember the legendary bush item that you equipped, which hilariously made you easier to spot (unless you were moving), or the old bushes you’d crouch in perfectly still and spring an ambush on someone not looking closely. That is basically what a Hideout is.

For a Hideout to spin its magic, you need to walk within close proximity of one and hit your ‘use’ key. Once used, your character will dive into the hideout and become completely ‘invisible’ (by virtue of being inside the item) and untargetable by enemy gunfire. This sets you up for an ambush as you can leave the hideout by hitting your ‘use’ key again. Just beware, leaving the hideout leaves you temporarily vulnerable as you’re unable to access your weapons during the leaving animation.

There are two styles of hideout; the hay bale and the dumpster.

Hay Bale Hideout Locations

The hay bale Hideout is accessible in any farmland type area, which in the Chapter 2 map is Frenzy Farm and the immediate surrounding areas (mostly northward). The hay bale hideouts are often located out in the open, or inside barns. They’ll mostly be congregated around E2-4, F2-4 and G3-4 on the main map’s grid.

Dumpster Hideout Locations

The dumpster Hideout is ultimately the more common of the two as it can be found in almost any built up area, areas such as: Steamy Stacks, Dirty Docks, Craggy Cliffs, Lazy Lake, Misty Meadows, Salty Springs, Pleasant Park, Slurpy Swamp, Sweaty Sands, plus some other unnamed areas. Often they’ll be next to a wall, where as the hay bales tend to be out in the open.

Now that you know what you’re looking for and how it functions, the challenge itself is a cinch. Simply locate one of the Hideouts, interact with it and voila, credit. Do this once per match for three matches and you’ll have completed the challenge (and hopefully picked up a few kills for being so sneaky).

There’s also another challenge later on in the Open Waters mission that is a little more difficult, asking you to do 150 damage within ten seconds of leaving a Hideout. It’s the same idea here, but you just need a victim as well as a Hideout. The play here is to land at the closest most popular area, scramble for any gun then leg it to a Hideout and hope someone passes by.
