First Look At Kristen Stewart As Princess Diana

The film Spencer is a poetic imagining of a pivotal moment in Princess Diana's life.

Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana

Neon just released the first look image of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s feature film Spencer, since principal photography has just begun for the film.

What’s The Film About?

Spencer focuses on one weekend in the life of Princess Diana in December 1991, as she spends the Christmas holiday with the royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, and decides to leave her marriage to Prince Charles.

Who’s Involved?

Joining Kristen Stewart is a star-studded cast that comprises of Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris. Peaky Blinder creator Steven Knight has penned the script, and Claire Mathon, who worked on Portrait of A Lady on Fire, is the Director of Photography.

Stewart expressed her excitement for the film. In her words, Spencer is “a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life. It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her.”

While Stewart may have seemed an unconventional choice, Larraín has absolute confidence she can deliver. Speaking to Deadline, he said: “Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”

There isn’t any news of a release date just yet, but 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, so that might be a possibility.
