Firebase: Neill Blomkamp’s New Short Is A Vietnam Nightmare

Blomkamp firebase

Neill Blomkamp, fresh off reminding everyone that Sigourney Weaver is a badass, has just releases his second short film through Oats Studios.

A maelstrom of bloody effects, Firebase takes the action to the Vietnam war by way of Predator. You’ve definitely seen something like Firebase before (it actually reminds me of Spectral with more balls), but it’s how Blomkamp pitches it that makes it stand out.

What may initially appear to be a simple creature feature quickly ups the ante: before the short’s end, the River God -the big, bad flesh monster- becomes just about the most OP sci-fi character you’ve ever seen.
