The final trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow is here, and Florence Pugh gets more of a feature in this last trailer before the movie’s release. Pugh plays Yelena Belova, who is essentially a sister to Scarlett Johannsson’s Natasha Romanoff. Just like Natasha, Yelena was also a fellow recruit for the Black Widow programme. With all the focus she is getting here, there is a possibility that she might take on the Black Widow mantle in future Marvel films.
The other members of Natasha’s pseudo family make an appearance at the end of the trailer as well, with Rachel Weisz’ Melina Vostokoff giving off a maternal vibe by telling her not to slouch, and David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian) adding on to the moment with fatherly humour as well.
While the family dynamics look like it will add some levity and enjoyment to the film, Black Widow hasn’t really impressed with any of its trailers so far. Maybe it’s just Marvel fatigue on my part, but I really hope to be proven wrong when the movie is released.
In terms of the timeline, Black Widow is a prequel, given Natasha’s fate in Avengers: Endgame. The events of the movie take place after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War
Black Widow will kick off Marvel’s phase 4, which also includes The Eternals, Shang Chi, Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. There is also the whole host of TV spin-offs that will be hosted on Disney+.
Black Widow will be released in theatres May 1, 2020.
