As expansive as Final Fantasy 16 is, its length is no match for the hardcore gamers around the world who have taken no time in burning through Clive’s Valisthean vendetta. If you count yourself among those devotees and have beaten the main story too, then you may be wondering whether there is a New Game Plus mode.
Luckily, Final Fantasy 16 does come with a New Game Plus mode called “Final Fantasy Mode” which can be accessed after beating the main story. Your skills, items, and weapons, all carry over to the New Game Plus mode. Enemies are significantly tougher than before, and elite enemies will spawn in locations where previously you found none. To counteract that, the developers have also raised Clive’s level cap to 100 in New Game Plus.
In contrast to the three tier weapon upgrade limit in normal mode, the weapons can be further upgraded up to a sixth tier in New Game Plus, and doing so will awaken the true potential of the weapon and will alter its name. You’ll also be able to duplicate accessories, allowing you to stack status effects. Like previous games, Final Fantasy 16 will have the Ultima Weapon too, and it’ll be craftable in the New Game Plus mode so you can shred through the amped-up enemies. Sure, there are lots of new additions in Final Fantasy 16’s New Game Plus, but the cherry on top is having the option to skip Clive’s childhood segment in the prologue.
Completing the New Game Plus mode rewards you with a Gold trophy, which must be collected to get the Platinum. The main story takes about 40 hours to finish in normal mode, for the Platinum that’s another 40, so better save those sick leaves if you’re planning on hunting them all.
Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PS5.
