Fast & Furious Crossroads Looks A Little Not Great

Since inexplicably being chosen to close The Game Awards late last year, Fast & Furious Crossroads has just had its first gameplay outing and it’s fair to say that Forza needn’t be worried.

Here’s two minutes of footage for the upcoming racer.

Here’s the synopsis:

“Gear up for high-stakes cinematic action in a new chapter in the Fast & Furious saga as you join the family to hunt down an international crime syndicate and pump the brakes on their plans. Then play online with your friends and create your own crew for revolutionary multiplayer action and spectacular mayhem. With all the high-speed vehicular stunts and heists, gadgets, locations, cars, and heroes from the films, Fast & Furious Crossroads casts you right at the center of the action.”

It doesn’t make a spectacular first impression, does it? It looks very muted with a slightly flat UI, and while the action definitely looks like it might be some brainless fun, there’s nothing much that grabs you. It looks pretty stripped back overall, though the ability to swap between different drivers makes me think of Driver: San Francisco and that’s never a bad thing.

I do have to question the price tag, though. I immediately thought it would come in at around $40-50, but Fast & Furious Crossroads will actually set you back the full $60. I’d love to see what the synopsis means by “revolutionary multiplayer”; all its store page says is that it will allow you to make crews.

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco, Fast & Furious Crossroads will feature the likenesses and voices of Vin Diesel and the gang, as well as single-player and multiplayer.

Fast & Furious Crossroads will launch August 7th, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
