Say what you want about the people who make up the WWE Universe, but there’s no denying that they make their voices heard. Roman Reigns is again involved in a mass movement of disapproval, though his Royal Rumble victory from a couple of years ago has nothing on this.
The least liked man in wrestling headlined another WrestleMania and retired The Undertaker in the process after what was very uncomfortable viewing for everyone in the audience and at home. There was a sense of inevitability about Reigns coming out on top with The Undertaker injured and no longer able to perform like he once could, but it still shocked to see The Phenom go out on his back.
Taker’s retirement felt like a case of sooner rather than later and many had speculated and dreamed about a final hurrah with Kane that would see both retire. So when Reigns turned out to be the one to put him away once and for all and not turn heel while doing so, the backlash was immediate.
Over on WWE’s YouTube channel right now, fans are mass disliking every recent video they can find. It’s ugly.
This is just a taste of the scorn WWE fans are pouring over the product now they’ve had time to fester and the tears have dried. Checking out the comments, it’s split 50/50 between people being delighted that The Hardy Boyz are back and those disgusted with the way the main event turned out. The video doesn’t even have to be related to either – they are sharing their opinions absolutely anywhere.
Emotions are running high with WWE fans right now, so they can’t be blamed for being so critical. The Undertaker is perhaps the most widely beloved wrestler in history, but his chronic hip injury and just the general wear of age means that another year WrestleMania might not have even been possible.
Personally, I thought it was absolutely the wrong call for The Undertaker to go out like that and against Reigns. The saving grace would have been Reigns turning heel and finally closing the book on the failed Reigns Babyface Experiment, but it looks like we’re in this for the long haul.
