Fall Guys Developer Mediatonic Acquired By Epic Games

Epic Games buying them crowns.

Fall Guys

Epic Games have announced that they’ve acquired Mediatonic, the developers behind the popular game Fall Guys. This deal will see Epic become publishers for the game, similar to how Epic are now the publishers for Rocket League.

What Does This Mean For Fall Guys?

At the moment, it doesn’t mean much. Fall Guys will still be available on the PlayStation 4, or PS5 via backwards compatibility, and PC. The Xbox One and Nintendo Switch releases will also remain unchanged, and the game will still be purchasable on Steam for the foreseeable. However, in the future, Epic and Mediatonic are looking to add Fortnite-style cross-play and squad vs. squad modes. No announcements are forthcoming on the idea of Fall Guys turning free-to-play though?

What Have Epic And Mediatonic Said About The Deal?

Dave Bailey, the co-founder and CEO of Tonic Games Group, Mediatonic’s parent company, had this to say: “At Tonic Games Group we often say that ‘everyone deserves a game that feels like it was made for them.’ With Epic, we feel like we have found a home that was made for us. They share our mission to build and support games that have a positive impact, empower others and stand the test of time and we couldn’t be more excited to be joining forces with their team.”

Tim Sweeney, Epic’s CEO, added: “It’s no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse and Tonic Games shares this goal. As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerful games, content and experiences.”
