Even the Fantastic Four Cast Doubt the Film

This week’s hottest blockbuster is Fox’s new Fantastic Four. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard about it – Fox seems to be only halfheartedly promoting the film and even some of the cast appear uncertain about the whole thing.

Miles Teller, who plays Reed Richards in the new film, looks to be the main culprit here. In an interview with BBC Newsbeat Teller was asked whether he wanted the movie to prove critics wrong, only to reveal the main cast hadn’t even seen it yet.

Teller went on to tell the BBC: “Rarely are films of this size critically well received.

“This is not a movie we’re going to go on Rotten Tomatoes and it’s going to be at 80 or 90 per cent.”

Hardly glowing praise for a movie he’s supposed to be promoting. But Teller has also found himself at the centre of a spat with Esquire this week after the magazine described him as “a dick”. The offending comments were part of a front cover interview of Teller for the magazine’s latest issue. And to say he wasn’t best pleased would be an understatement.

But wait, there’s more: yet another interview promoting the movie has ended in a metaphorical trainwreck. Interviewing Teller’s co-stars Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell, an Atlanta DJ invented new levels of awkward with strange questions about race and Mara’s looks, which were apparently the only questions he could think of for an actor who doesn’t have a penis.

The DJ even descended into what seems to be comments about his sexual preference for toes. Specifically Kate Mara’s toes.

Let’s not dwell on it.

Fantastic Four/em> has spent most of this year in the Hollywood rumour rags as it is. With re-shoots and rumours circulating about director Josh Trank and disagreements with Fox a lot of the film press seem to have already settled on what they think of the film before they’ve seen it.

In the end you’ve got to feel sorry for this movie. With a cast that hadn’t seen the film until its premiere, and a film press apparently doing their best to sabotage it, Fantastic Four should probably be grateful if it manages to make its costs back.
