Escape Academy Aims To Recreate Escape Rooms For PC & Consoles

Launching this June.

Escape Academy

iam8bit and Skybound Games have announced that they’ve teamed up with indie developers Coin Crew Games to create Escape Academy, a first person puzzle game designed to recreate the thrill of real life escape rooms. Check out the debut trailer at the top of the page.

Escape Academy is set in a secret world where you’re the latest recruit of a school designed to teach people about the “art of escape”. You’ll be tasked with solving puzzles and escaping rooms as they’re put forth by your professors in order to secure your place as a legendary “Escapist”, but along the way, a shadowy plot will begin to reveal itself. Fortunately, you won’t have to tackle that plot alone, as the game supports both local and online co-op.

Coin Crew Games, Escape Academy’s developer, was co-founded by Wyatt Bushnell and Mike Mohammed Salyh, and the two have experience with developing escape rooms as the two became business partners after they were contracted to create one together.

In a press release regarding the game’s announcement, Mike had this to say: “Our goal has always been bringing people together to play, whether that’s in arcades or at home. As a studio, we’re rigorous about playtesting our designs early and often, a philosophy we pulled from our years developing games for the location based entertainment space.”

Escape Academy is set to be published by iam8bit Presents, a new video game publishing label from one of the leading forces in video game memorabilia. Co-owners of iam8bit Jon M. Gibson and Amanda White stated how excited they were about the potential of Escape Academy: “Escape Academy really captures the thrill of teaming up with friends and the real adrenaline rush to beat the clock – and we’re saying this based on our own experience designing IRL escape rooms for Resident Evil and Alita: Battle Angel. There are so many layers to the narrative and nuanced elements that make the puzzles feel like compelling challenges.”

Escape Academy will be launching this June for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, and the game will even be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
