Bleecker Street just released the official trailer for Wild Mountain Thyme, a romantic comedy starring Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan, set in the beautiful spaces of Ireland. The comments on the trailer are quite divisive; some are eager given the star-studded cast, while some are immensely skeptical given the less-than-convincing Irish accents.
What’s It About?
The film follows Rosemary Muldoon (Blunt), who has her heart set on winning her neighbor Anthony Reilly’s (Dornan) love. The problem is Anthony seems to have inherited a family curse, and remains oblivious to her admiration. He then finds out that his father Tony (Christopher Walken) has plans to sell the family farm to his American nephew Adam(Jon Hamm). Adam also seems to have taken a liking to Rosemary, and offers her a straightforward romance, one that she is unlikely to get from Anthony. Will Anthony come to his senses and realise what was under his nose this whole time? Of course he will, it’s a romantic comedy.
Who’s Involved?
Wild Mountain Thyme is written for the screen and directed by John Patrick Shanley, which is based on his own play Outside Mullingar. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because Shanley lent his writing talents to the romantic comedy Moonstruck. He also wrote and directed Doubt, starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman (this film is a must-watch).
The film will be in theatres and on demand December 11, 2020.
