Frontier Developments have announced the next major expansion coming to Elite Dangerous, and it’s a big one. Titled Odyssey, the next expansion will allow players to experience on-foot exploration and combat, as you take to the surface of the various planets that comprise Elite’s galaxy. Players will be able to take on a variety of missions once they’ve touched down on a planet, whether that’s trade, stealth, diplomacy or carnage. Once the combat does kick in, you can enjoy a multi-leveled experience, where boots on the ground humans, surface recon vehicles and starships can and will all converge into one battle. Odyssey also promises a host social hubs where players will be able to form new alliances and upgrade their gear.
David Braben, CEO and founder of Frontier Developments, said the following in a press release about the expansion: “Odyssey is our most ambitious Elite Dangerous expansion to date. Extending coverage to the super-fine scale that is needed for on-foot gameplay while maintaining the vast raw distances measured in light years, is a huge achievement by the team, and greatly extends the already rich Elite Dangerous experience.” Odyssey is scheduled to launch in early 2021.
