Electronic Essentials of the Week: Curbi, Dark Tantrums, GT

Electronic music is known for its huge variety of sounds and styles, with thousands upon thousands of ever-different tracks being released every day. It is often impossible to know where to start, so each week we will be selecting the best of the best in the scene to help you get the most out of one of the most varied and unpredictable genres.

Curbi & Bougenvilla – Butterfly Effect

One of the most exciting talents to emerge from the house scene in the last year, UK-based Curbi delivers another fresh collaboration that has his quirky and unstoppable style all over it, while Bougenvilla’s smooth production skills ensure this is a truly unique and infectious release. Curbi’s own brand of future house, in part inspired by Oliver Heldens, shines through again, with a drop that spirals downwards into uncharted sound, later venturing into a trap influenced beat that adds another layer to the already stellar tune.

JackLNDN – Streams

A beautifully chill track that incorporates catchy vocal samples with upbeat brass to transport you back into the summer vibe, perfect to listen to as the days grow shorter. A vibrant and memorable beat makes the track perfect for a mid-set cooldown, and ensures that you’ll keep coming back to Streams when winter gets you down. Carrying you through to summer where the roots of this deep house track lie.

Boards of Canada – Kaini Industries (Draft Remix)

Draft transforms the minute long original into an experimental track with scattered beats. Tinkering with the original tune to deliver a stirring journey through the lovingly observed melodies, courtesy of a symphony of xylophones and vocal samples, that push this track into a hugely infectious tune. It would fit perfectly into the adventurous and pioneering SOULECTION label.

Dark Tantrums – Storm VIP

Long standing dubstep master, Dark Tantrums, returns to his outrageous track ‘Storm’ putting an even dirtier spin on it, that pushes further and further into the murky depths of dub. This VIP features an unpredictable bassline to get you straight up on your feet, and an array of ambitious melodies that push the boundaries of the GetDarker release catalogue.

GTA – Saria’s Turn Up

Like playing Zelda on hard drugs. GTA (Good Times Ahead) mutate a classic theme from the original Nintendo classic into a straight up lethal hardstyle/trap track, and it is bound to wreak complete havoc with every crowd it is unleashed on. GTA have set a very high bar when it comes to the hardstyle scene and have propelled themselves to the top with every new release that push the boundaries of normality consistently.

Andrew Bayer – Celestial

Progressive house king, and AnjunaBeats favourite, Andrew Bayer returns with another absolutely angelic voyage through gorgeous strings and a deliciously soulful buildup, giving the pulsating drop an extra sweetness. Choral samples and epic melodies are dazzlingly arranged on a grand scale, with a drop that accentuates the endlessly upbeat atmosphere.

Speed Round
The Aliens – Retreat (Glistening with trademark Aliens style, this one is a guaranteed firestarter that fuses tumbling melodies with a booming bassline)
WRECKVGE & PuroWuan – Witch Hunt (A downright evil Dim Mak release with enough screeching strings to haunt your dreams for days with a wicked bassline)
Drake – Know Yourself (Tom Budin Remix) (A lively take on the Drake original that perfectly flips it on its head into a dirty house skank)
Herobust – Dirty Work (Blends riddim and trap, with hints of classic Herobust, to turn any show completely delirious)
Calvin Harris – How Deep Is Your Love (Arman Cekin Remix)(A lush take on the hit original that gives it an undeniably beautiful core with fantastic cascading strings at the forefront)
