Elden Ring: How to Find the First Boss (Burial Tree Watchdog)

Bosses are all over the place in Elden Ring. With each region boasting as many as 13 boss and mini-boss encounters, you’ll have to search every cave, shack, and ruin to find them all. Luckily we can point you in the right direction to find yourself a good starter boss, The Burial Tree Watchdog.

Now, granted, there are bosses prowling the overworld, and one forced encounter early on, but this is the first boss you’ll be finding on your own. It also happens to be a healthy level of challenge: hard enough to make you work for it but not so hard that you’ll feel totally unmatched.

The Burial Tree Watchdog can be found at the Stormfoot Catacombs.

It’s a relatively small dungeon that you’ll find northwest of the starting area in Elden Ring. Just past the Church of Eliah you’ll find the ruins of a stone tower, keep heading northwest from there toward the cliffside in the distance.

Once you reach the cliffside, you’ll find a doorway that leads down to the Stormfoot Catacombs. Inside you’ll encounter some sneaky enemies, so keep your eyes open as you explore. The Burial Tree Watchdog is behind the sealed door you see early on, so you’ll need to get that open.

To do so, you’ll have to battle your way to the upper level. Once you do, keep your eyes open for a platform below. All you need to do is drop down onto it and pull the switch to open up access to The Burial Tree Watchdog. After that, have at it. The fight will be hard-won but you should have your first real boss taken down before too long.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X & S, and Xbox One.
