The early reactions for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It are rolling in on Twitter, and so far, the critics are complimentary and consider it to be a competent addition to the franchise.

What’s The Film About?

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It follows the trial of Arne Johnson, the first man in US history to plead “not guilty” for reasons of demonic possession. Director Michael Chaves has called it the franchise’s biggest and darkest movie, considering the dark material it dives into and the consequences that resulted from that case.

Early Reactions

Chris Evangelista over at Slash Film said he would continue to watch these films, “as long as Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga keep making the[m].” There is much love for Wilson and Farmiga’s portrayal of the Warrens, since Ian Sandwell, the Movies Editor at Digital Spy, was effusive in his praise for the two and the film’s “*excellent* set pieces”. Then we have Erik Davis, the Managing Editor at Fandango, who called it “freakishly demonic & bone-chilling in all the right spots”.

In comparison to the first two movies in the franchise, film critic Courtney Howard commented that “it isn’t as scary or unnerving as its predecessors”. This is not to say that it isn’t good, since she appreciated “some of the bigger swings this one takes in remaining true to the universe”.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be released June 4, 2021.
