EA Confirm New Battlefield Game For Fall 2018

Battlefield 1

Mentioned in passing during a conference call, EA have confirmed that a new Battlefield game is slated to release this fall.

Following the recent tradition of a new Battlefield game every two years, the as yet untitled FPS will be the first in the series since 2016’s Battlefield 1, itself a runaway success. After pressing the reset button on the franchise and taking things back to The Great War, the game has managed 25 million players to date and is the most successful entry in the series.

EA executives Patrick Soderlund, Andrew Wilson, and Black Jorgensen were talking about the company’s upcoming slate and the performance of their current games in the call. Also of note was the delay of Anthem and the sales of Battlefront 2 not being as bad as its controversies would suggest.

Rumours abound that the next game in the Battlefield series will be a Bad Company follow-up, though they are not yet confirmed. For my money, I am a little jaded from flitting back and forth between time periods, so I would be happy with some modern day shooting. Just give me Battlefield 4 again but without its multitude of problems.

We were big fans of Battlefield 1, per our review:

“Not just one of the best FPS games of the year, but one of the best overall. DICE have taken a step backwards with Battlefield 1 but taken many forward at the same time. For once, a game where you can believe the hype.”
