E3 2015: Nintendo Conference

Moving on from our coverage of the decidedly excellent EA conference, here is the highlight reel from Nintendo’s offering.

Star Fox Zero Announced for Wii U

Fans of Star Fox 64 (or, as I lovingly remember it, Lylat Wars) rejoice, as Nintendo have announced Star Fox Zero at their E3 2015 Digital Event.

Star Fox Zero combines both the familiar on-rails gameplay seen in previous iterations of the Star Fox franchise with larger, more open areas. Shigeru Miyamoto commented on the level of experimentation that went into Wii U GamePad during the development of the game. Players will be able to view a cinematic view of the game on their televisions, whilst a view from the cockpit will be displayed on the GamePad.

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes Revealed for 3DS

Despite the absence of The Legend of Zelda Wii U, Nintendo announced that Link’s latest entry into the franchise is a multiplayer-focused title that allows three players to work co-operatively through puzzles and dungeons. Mechanics include a ‘totem’ ability that allows players to stack on top of one another to reach high ledges and hit certain weak spots on enemies. In a Final Fantasy X-2 Dress Sphere kind of way, players can also kit out their character with certain outfits that affect and compliment their play style.

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes is due for a fall 2015 release in the US.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force Announced for 3DS

Continuing on the co-operative multiplayer theme, Nintendo announced the spiritual-successor to Metroid Prime: Hunters, a first-person shooter that launched with the original Nintendo DS. Loosely set in the Metroid Universe, players work together in order to overcome enemies, as well as play a curious sports game entitled ‘Blast Ball.’

Mario and Luigi Paper Jam coming to 3DS in 2016

Nintendo’s paper-based interpretation of the Mario Universe is set to arrive on 3DS next year. The game sees two Mario Universes colliding together, as 3D Mario and 2D Paper Mario become the best of friends.

Yo-Kai Watch, Level 5’s Newest RPG Given a Western Release

Yo-Kai Watch, a Pokémon-inspired RPG developed by Level 5 is coming to the west. Well known for developing another catch ‘em all game in the form of PS3’s Ni No Kuni, Level 5 combine a charming art-style and loveable creatures that players battle in order to protect the city of Springdale. Yo-Kai Watch is aiming for a Holiday 2015 release in the United States.

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem Receives Western Release

Already released in Japan, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem was confirmed to be coming to the West. Despite the announcement confusingly coming in the form of a Japanese-only trailer (complete with Japanese dialogue and text), the game is set to arrive in the West in 2016.

Super Mario Maker Coming This Year

The widely anticipated Super Mario Maker, originally announced at last year’s E3, is due to be released by the end of this year. Super Mario Maker allows players to create their own Super Mario stages and share them with other Wii U owners.

New Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Announced for Wii U

In an attempt to bolster the Wii U’s list of games, Nintendo announced that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will launch at the end of 2015. Although there wasn’t much information on the title, Nintendo did show off gameplay, which can be seen below.
