As the Royal Rumble draws closer and the road to WrestleMania begins a big name player and marquee match looks to be in jeopardy. Reported by WWE.com, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19 and thus has to enter quarantine.

McIntyre had been set to face returning Hall of Famer Goldberg for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble on January 31st in a match with a heavily mixed reaction from fans. He had also been scheduled to face Randy Orton on last night’s episode of RAW, however that match did not go ahead and instead Randy Orton had a match scheduled against Triple H.

On last night’s episode of RAW, Drew McIntyre appeared via video to state that his case was fortunately asymptomatic but outlined the seriousness of the virus and urged viewers to stay safe and wear a mask. Later in the night, McIntyre cut a promo on Goldberg in which he accepted Goldberg’s challenge for the match at the Royal Rumble so it would appear that, for now at least, the title match is still going ahead as planned.

Regardless of the severity of his case I think I speak for all the Cultured Vultures team and wrestling fans alike when I wish Drew a quick and full recovery.
