Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds Questions Disney Buying Fox

Think of the big-screen version of Deadpool. The obvious things should come first: a fine ass that doesn’t quit, a face like the aftermath of a volcano at a sweet factory, and a whole lot of muffling. The next thing after that? A heck load of swears, which he may not have been able to pull off in a movie five years ago – the superhero landscape has changed a lot in that time.

One of the catalysts for the change was Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, which took superhero movies from semi-regular fixtures of the cinema release calendar to homogenised and very similar releases very often. If rumours are to be believed, Disney now have their eyes on 20th Century Fox, who own the rights to the X-Men universe.

Deadpool is part of the most bloated and confusing superhero universes around, which begs the question: will he still be able to roll over bad guys in a zamboni and exclaim abot chimi-fuckin’-changas? Ryan Reynolds, the red one himself, shared a thought on Twitter:

It would certainly be interesting to see, no matter what. I don’t think Disney will essentially neuter Deadpool and make him more family-friendly, but I can’t imagine them letting him continue to push limits like he did. The only reason why Fox greenlit Deadpool to begin with was a groundswell of fan support and that they needed to start taking risks – as our peerless overlords, Disney don’t need to push the envelope at all.
