Days Gone Release Date, Trailers and Latest News

Announced back at E3 2016 and developed by SIE Bend Studio, who you may know from the Syphon Filter series, Days Gone has many zombie game fanatics excited. Thanks to a trailer and a gameplay reveal that made World War Z weep, the new IP has been closely followed for months, though much hasn’t been revealed since.

What is Days Gone’s Release Date?
Nothing is set in stone. However, some video game retailers have it down as sometime in 2017, but early 2018 is the safest bet. We might hear some about it in the coming months.

Where can I play Days Gone?
It’s exclusive to PS4 and looks like a shoo-in for this list. As is the norm, it will be optimised for PS4 Pro.

What genre does Days Gone belong to?

It will be an open-world action adventurer. You will be able to take to the destitute Pacific Northwest’s roads on a motorcycle, which already sounds like a winner.

Days Gone Synopsis

Taken from the official website:

“Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving. In the demo you saw two types of Freaks – Newts, which were adolescents when infected, are opportunistic hunters, preferring to hit and run from the shadows; and a Horde. Made up of hundreds of individual Freakers, Hordes eat, move and attack together, almost as one. Some Hordes roam the highways at night, while others, like the one in the demo, have found a food source that keeps it in a single location. Skills learned in his prior life as an outlaw biker have given Deacon a slight edge in the seemingly never-ending fight to stay alive. But will it be enough?”

Days Gone quick facts

– The main character is Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter. He very much looks like he enjoys Sons of Anarchy.
– There aren’t any zombies. They’re actually called freakers: normal humans who are infected with a virus that drives them crazy. They still need to eat and drink.
– The events of the game take place two years after the outbreak.
– Interactive environments will allow you to make traps to deal with the relentless swarms of freakers.
– You will be able to upgrade your skills and abilities.
– Multiplayer won’t be included.
– You can only have the bike throughout the whole game; no other vehicles. However, it does act as your inventory, which could be neat or incredibly frustrating.
– Crafting elements help you soup up your weapons on the fly. In the gameplay video, Deacon is seen crafting a silencer, which isn’t likely to be the only thing you can do.
– Deacon has/had a girlfriend who may/may not be freaker chow already. Watch this space.
– Deacon will be played by Sam Witwer, who previously portrayed Starkiller in Force Unleashed and, funnily enough, Emperor Palpatine. He was also the tank soldier in the first episode of The Walking Dead, which is a cool little coincidence.
– Days Gone features a dynamic weather system that changes gameplay for better and worse.
– There are multiple ways to achieve most goals, as seen in the E3 2017 coverage.

Are we excited for Days Gone?

What’s not to like? It has hordes of not-zombies, a motorcycle and an open road. The only worry is that it won’t have much variety; it will need to do something very different to the overwhelming amount of open-world action games out there. The Last of Us comparisons may also hurt it. Nevertheless, as long as it’s tightly made and has inventive ways to kill not-zombies, we’re sold on it being just a bit of fun.
