Dark Horse Publishing Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia In English This October

Three years after its release in Japan, the acclaimed Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia will finally be available in English on October 23, 2018. Like the bestselling Legend of Zelda reference book, Hyrule Historia, it will be published by Dark Horse Comics, and is now available to pre-order for $39.99.

The 256-page book will chronicle the first thirty years of Mario’s history, covering everything from Super Mario Bros to Super Mario 3D World. So if you’ve ever desperately wanted to know about the evolution of the Goomba, you’re in luck, because it happens to be one of the many topics covered within the gigantic tome.

In addition to giving us an in-depth history of the most famous video game character of all time, the Encyclopedia will also feature gameplay tips and an interview with producer Takashi Tezuka. Within its pages, we can also look forward to a ton of beautiful artwork.

Keep in mind that since the book was originally published in Japan in 2015, all of the Mario games released over the last three years will not be covered. Still, seeing as over 500 million games featuring the dungaree-clad plumber have been sold since 1985, it’s pretty likely that the Super Mario Encyclopedia will disappear from shelves faster than Nintendo slaps DMCAs on fan-made projects. Personally, I’m just glad to see Dark Horse finally being allowed to handle another huge franchise after they lost both Star Wars and Conan to Marvel.
