Daily Tune: Connie Constance – Let Go

Connie Constance has been playing intimate London shows for years, and she’s had a dedicated fan following for almost as long, but last year when she played Pitchfork in Paris. Now, with her career kicking into overdrive, she’s about to release her first EP since being signed by AMF Records – Boring Connie. Last week, we got our first sample of the vibe in the form of the leading single – Let Go.

It’s a powerful study of the nature of toxic relationships and how people strive to rise beyond them. The accompanying video relays that message in a very simple, but shockingly effective way – it shows Connie preparing for and then in engaging in a bare knuckle boxing match, against herself. It’s a beautifully shot, masterfully edited video that manages to be visceral and disturbing all at once, framing personal struggle in a way that leaves nothing to the imagination.

The music production itself is a familiar blend of rnb and hip-hop beat-making and sombre piano chords. Even taking the lyrics out of the picture, Connie’s vocals are remarkably intense, and as the song continues to ramp up, matching Alexandra Green’s amazing choreography, she continues to extend her range. The EP comes out on the 29th of November.
