Daily Tune: Carmody – Like That

Since first bleeping her way onto the radar with the Out to Sea EP back in 2014, Carmody has been cultivated a reputation as a powerful singer capable of writing lyrics which leave your emotions more frayed than a broom that’s used to fend off stray cats. For the past three years she’s been slowly feeding in a series of singles, improving and developing as an artist until she hit the next big milestone – a sold out performance at Omeara in London which left every mind in the venue freshly blown.

Throughout all that, she’s stayed independent, and now we have a brand new track to exemplify that – ‘Like That’. It’s a sombre, infectious piece of music that reflects on the notion of how your love for a person changes as time progresses. It’s not necessarily a sad song, but the chorus has a sense of longing to it, and the intensity of the track will catch you off guard if you aren’t careful.

This is promises to the be the first in a series of new releases for Carmody, and it demonstrates just how far her production has come since her first EP. Not that it was lacking before, but the sharpness of the beat and the depth of the melody here speak almost as loudly as the words do. Carmody will be hitting the stage again on the 22nd of November, performing at Bussey Building in Peckham.
