Daily Tune: The Bug – Bad (ft. Flowdan)

It’s hard to think of many electronic artists who have been working as prolifically as The Bug has recently. Between ludicrous new A/V shows, radio sets and touring like a madman, it’s a wonder he’s found time to release any new material, but that’s been happening too. Much like the Box/Iceman release from last year, he’s drafted in two heavy hitting vocalists for the new release – Flowdan, Irah and Killa P.

The full release comes out in a few weeks, but for the time being we have the leading single to chew over – Bad. Featuring Flowdan, who’s been a frequent collaborator with The Bug for years, it’s a dark, machinist concoction with a vocal that’s almost reminiscent of the late, great Spaceape. Flowdan reflects on his upbringing in East London over a beat that was made using just one Soviet drum machine, manipulated and layered until it sounds like a dragon’s growl.

The second track, Get Out The Way hasn’t arrived yet, but it heralds the first collaboration between The Bug and Killa P since Skeng all the way back in 2008. Although there’s no link yet, Mala, Kahn, Pinch, Mumdance and others have all already dropped it during sets, which is far from a bad sign. The full release drops digitally on November 17th and then on 12″ on December the 8th.
