Curve Digital Publishing Multiplayer Firefighting “Unsimulator” Embr

Fireman Sam meets Uber.

Embr

Curve Digital have announced that they’ll be publishing the multiplayer firefighting “unsimulator” Embr, developed by Muse Games, which will be launching into Steam Early Access this Spring. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Embr takes a satirical look at gig economy apps like Uber, Deliveroo, Doordash, Airbnb, Lyft and so many more, creating a fictional world where the emergency services have now been taken over by similar apps. You’ll control everyday heroes seeking to supplement their income by tackling fires in the local area.

Of course, the lack of official training means you’ll have to get creative to solve the host of problems you’ll encounter, so you’ll have to work together with friends in online co-op to earn that elusive 5-star rating and upgrade your tools.  While this might initially sound like an incredibly bleak Black Mirror episode, the overall tone is playful more than preachy.

Howard Tsao, the team lead over at Muse Games, describes the game perfectly: “Embr is set in a hyper-capitalist, deregulated alt-present world where public firefighting funding has run dry, and venture capitalism and e-hailing rule the roost. If that all sounds rather loaded – and, indeed, familiar – the gameplay itself is far more upbeat. It’s fair to say our take on firefighting isn’t your everyday simulator.”

Curve Digital’s publishing director Simon Bryon is also incredibly excited about Embr: “It’s fair to say the ‘unsimulator’ genre – where there’s much hilarity to be had in getting things wrong – is one we’ve had our eye on for some time, which made Embr such an interesting prospect. Embr is also a game with a message, however. A stark look at a privatized world where the gig economy is king, and the ramifications that stem from that. It’s a combination we couldn’t resist.”

Embr will be available on Steam Early Access later on in Spring 2020. Is it setting a fire in your heart, or do you hate us for that cheesy pun? Let us know in the comments either way.
