AEW’s next pay-per-view event, Full Gear, is already shaping up to be an exciting night of action. The long-awaited Omega/Moxley singles match will finally take place alongside this recently announced AEW Championship bout between Chris Jericho and AEW founder, Cody Rhodes.

With wins and losses apparently meaning something in the AEW landscape, Cody makes for a sensible choice to be Jericho’s first challenger, having a near perfect record on AEW pay-per-views so far. Both having history in the WWE adds that extra layer of intrigue to this big-money match, surely both men will be out to prove something in what’s arguably the biggest main event AEW has broadcast yet.

Of course this announcement produces a lot of criticism from wrestling fans. Throughout history, we’ve seen promoters and lead bookers write themselves into the main event scene and often steal the championship in an attempt to rub their own egos. Hopefully this won’t be the case with Cody, even if he does end up holding the AEW Championship at some point in his career. I see Rhodes being a lot more willing to share the prestige of the title among all comers, rather that hording it for himself.

Regardless, this makes for a really exciting match to look forward to on November 9th. Make sure you drop your own thoughts in the comments below.
