Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things Gets Official Trailer

With upcoming movies like this, Netflix is working hard to make sure we don't end things with them.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things Jessie Buckley as Young Woman

Netflix just released the official trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things, and it looks hella amazing.

Firstly, the trailer doesn’t spoil anything, which is a rare thing these days. It is so expertly cut, where we see a jumble of genres all mixed together till we can’t tell one from the other. It starts off feeling like a rom-com, before taking a sharp turn to psychological thriller and possibly horror. I mean, the last time I saw acting like that from Toni Collette was Hereditary, and that movie gave me nightmares (thanks Ari Aster).

Based on Iain Reid’s acclaimed novel of the same name, we follow a young woman (Jessie Buckley) on a road trip with her new boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to his family’s farm. Trapped at the farm during a snowstorm with Jake’s mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), the young woman begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world. In other words, she’s thinking of ending things.

Charlie Kaufman is a fantastic writer and filmmaker, and based on the trailer, the visuals of the film are just absolutely stunning. Having read the novel, I believe only Kaufman can do justice to a narrative as complex as Reid’s novel. It’s heavy, difficult stuff, but I am confident Kaufman will deliver a great film.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things will be released on Netflix September 4, 2020.
