Arcade Classic Swarms on Consoles in Centipede: Recharged

Classic bug action with a modern flair

Centipede, the long-running arcade game staple that debuted in 1981, is coming back with the neon-splashed new titled Centipede: Recharged, developed by Adamvision Studios and Sneakybox Studios, and published by Atari.

What’s New With Centipede?

Centipede: Recharged will have a modernized look, but seems to maintain the time-honored game’s central gameplay structure: Giant insects swarm down the screen, and players shoot them down, one individual segment of the enemies’ bodies at a time.

As explained on the game’s official Steam page:

“The original bug-blasting arcade game is back! Centipede: Recharged has been reimagined for modern gameplay, with vibrant visuals designed for modern screens, a 16:9 field of play, and an original soundtrack from award-winning video game composer Megan McDuffee.

Aim for a high score in the old school arcade mode and earn bragging rights with your name at the top of the leaderboard. Or test your skills and rank on the boards in one of 30 intensely creative challenges, which twist the gameplay in new and exciting ways.

A dozen new power-ups can give you an edge by introducing abilities like screen-clearing explosions, rail guns, and even slowing down time. Every mode and level is playable in local co-op mode with a friend.”

Centipede: Recharged is the first title in a renewed push by Atari to invest in and revitalize many of their classic titles from years past. Players will also be able to play Centipede: Recharged with a new Atari Wireless Classic Joystick in order to really capture that antiquated arcade sensation.

When Does Centipede: Recharged Release?

Centipede: Recharged will be scurrying into your home (if you purchase it) on Wednesday, September 29 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games Store for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Atari VCS with exclusive content.
