You Can Play As Half-Life’s Gordon Freeman In Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy 15 Gordon Freeman

To celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy XV on Steam on March 6, Square Enix have announced that Gordon Freeman, the protagonist from Valve’s Half-Life series, will be playable in the game. Freeman will be available through the Half-Life Pack, which will be available to everyone who purchases FFXV on Steam at no extra cost.

Rather than being a simple cosmetic add-on, Freeman’s crowbar can actually be used as a powerful in-game weapon, whilst his HEV Suit will provide a level of protection from the monsters roaming the land.

Final Fantasy XV originally launched on consoles in November 2016, and quickly became one of the most acclaimed games of the year. We awarded it a score of 8 out of 10 in our review, calling it a “gem for both new players and veterans of the series alike”.

Whilst it’s still relatively uncommon for big JRPGs to be released on Steam, the fact that Square have collaborated with Valve to bring exclusive content to the Steam version of FFXV could be a sign of good things to come.

Meanwhile, Half-Life 3 probably won’t be released anytime this millennium, but roaming around the world of Eos as Gordon Freeman should be enough to keep fans happy. At the very least, it should help soften the blow, as we gradually come to accept the reality that Half-Life 3 will probably never be released.
