Bridgerton: Season 3 – Everything You Should Know

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Bridgerton is a historical romance series based on the novel series by Julia Quinn of the same name. Based in a fictionalised England during the Regency Era, the series follows the Bridgertons, a noble family made up of eight children of varying ages and their widowed mother. Though the series as a whole follows the family and their associates navigating London’s social season every year, each season focuses on a particular child of the family as they try to find a suitable partner for marriage.

When Bridgerton came out on Christmas 2020, viewers fell in love with the Netflix show. Season 1 clocked up a total of 625.49 million hours watched during its first four weeks, making it the most popular English language series on the platform. This record was toppled by its sequel, with season 2 narrowly beating it with 627.11 million hours. Considering the outstanding popularity of the show, it’s not a question of if Bridgerton: Season 3 is coming out, it’s a question of when.

When Is Bridgerton: Season 3 Coming Out?

While Bridgerton was renewed for a third and fourth season in April 2021, there is no official release date for Bridgerton: Season 3. Season 1 was released on Christmas 2020 and Season 2 premiered in March 2022. Filming on Bridgerton: Season 3 commenced in July 2022, so if the releases continue at their current rate, fans can expect the third season to come out in late summer or early autumn of 2024 unless there are any significant changes.

Will the Cast Return for Bridgerton: Season 3?

Most of the cast that was in the previous two seasons of Bridgerton will be returning for the third instalment, but there are a couple of faces which will be missing. One of them will be Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton. In an interview with ScreenRant, Dynevor announced that she wouldn’t be returning for season three, though she is excited to watch it as a viewer and is hopeful to appear in follow-up seasons.

Among the new cast, Hannah Dodd will be replacing Ruby Stoke as Francesca Bridgerton, who sadly couldn’t continue to commit to the character due to her lead role in Lockwood & Co. There will also be three new characters who will be introduced as potential suitors for the next social season – Daniel Francis playing Marcus Anderson, Sam Philips taking on the role of Lord Debling, and James Phoo as Harry Dankworth.

What Could Bridgerton: Season 3 Be About?

So far, each of the seasons of Bridgerton has focused on adapting each of Quinn’s novels – season 1 adapts the first book, ‘The Duke and I’, which focuses on Daphne Bridgerton, and season 2 adapts the second book, ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’, which is about Anthony Bridgerton. Book three, ‘An Offer From A Gentleman’, focuses on Benedict Bridgerton and his love interest, Sophie Beckett, so it’s likely that this will be what season three will be about, right?

Wrong. Season three will actually be focusing on the romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, which is drawn from book four in the novel series, ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton’. This is likely because Penelope has become a bit of a fan-favourite, plus it’ll give enough time to give Benedict’s character more significant development for a future season.
