Let it never be said that modern developers and publishers don’t take risks. By all accounts, ELEX, the open-world RPG from Piranha Bytes and THQ Nordic, shouldn’t work. It’s a bit of a mess with jank coming out of its ears, yet it somehow does.

A sci-fi and fantasy blend, ELEX doesn’t waste any time in showing off how different it is, allowing you to jetpack around within the first five minutes of the game. It’s an even shorter space of time before you face off against your first velociraptor – yes, really.
